‘He’s a Distant Relative of My Mum or Something’: Street Fighter 6 Patched to Be Slightly Less Incestuous
Capcom has released a patch for Street Fighter 6 that revises a problematic element of character Alex’s backstory. In the original game, Alex described his adopted father Tom as a cousin of his mother and sparring partner of his father—a relationship that created an uncomfortable family connection with Patricia, Tom’s biological daughter whom Alex marries.
The new patch softens this storyline by changing Alex’s description of Tom to “a distant relative of my Mum or something, and was a sparring buddy of my Dad.” This revised text makes the biological relationship between Tom and Alex’s wife ambiguous rather than explicitly defined, while still hinting at some familial connection. The change appears to be a response to community feedback regarding the problematic nature of the original narrative.
While the patch doesn’t entirely eliminate the connection between the characters, it significantly reduces the clarity and directness of the incestuous undertones in Alex’s character arc.
