Capcom Cracks Down On NSFW Resident Evil Requiem Mods With Mass Takedown
Capcom has issued a mass takedown against British YouTuber GrizzoUK, forcing the removal of over 1,000 videos showcasing adult-oriented mods for Resident Evil Requiem. The mods primarily featured game characters in skimpy clothing that violated the publisher’s Terms of Service and intellectual property rights.
Capcom’s legal division contacted GrizzoUK via email, citing that the mod videos were “inconsistent” with the company’s policies as well as “relevant copyright and intellectual property laws.” The creator subsequently shared the cease-and-desist communication publicly during a stream.
Adult-oriented mods have been a staple of the Resident Evil modding community since Requiem’s launch, with creators regularly producing content depicting characters in revealing outfits. GrizzoUK had become a prominent figure in the space by posting numerous videos showcasing these modifications.
The takedown reflects Capcom’s stricter approach to protecting its intellectual property and brand image, particularly regarding how its characters are depicted. The action targets not the mods themselves, but the video content promoting them—a significant distinction that highlights the challenge of content moderation in the gaming industry where derivative works exist in a gray legal area.
