Epic Games’ Chief People Officer Gone From Company
Monika Fahlbusch, Epic Games’ Chief People Officer, has departed from the company after spending just over five years in the role. She joined Epic Games in December 2020 and held a prominent position within the publisher’s human resources department.
Fahlbusch’s exit follows a significant restructuring at Epic Games in March 2026, when the Fortnite publisher laid off more than 1,000 employees. As a top HR executive, Fahlbusch played a direct role in managing the company’s staff reduction efforts. In the wake of the layoffs, she sent a formal letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce on behalf of Epic Games, acknowledging the impact of the decision: “We are mindful of the difficulties that this layoff poses to employees and the community.”
The departure of a major HR executive shortly after overseeing one of the largest layoffs in recent gaming industry history raises questions about the circumstances surrounding leadership transitions at the company. The timing suggests potential fallout or strategic changes in management following the substantial workforce reduction.
