Jagex to expand RuneScape: Dragonwilds into Asia-Pacific region

RuneScape developer Jagex has announced plans to launch RuneScape: Dragonwilds in the Asia-Pacific region later this year, in what the company describes as its “most significant international expansion” to date. The launch will include native language support for Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, reflecting a strategic commitment to these key markets rather than simple translation.

CEO Jon Bellamy highlighted the importance of the Asia-Pacific region to the global gaming industry, describing it as “the centre of gravity for the global gaming population” and noting that communities in these regions are among the most discerning and passionate player bases worldwide. The expansion demonstrates Jagex’s confidence in RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ potential to resonate with Asian audiences and marks a significant investment in localization infrastructure.

The move aligns with broader industry recognition of Asia-Pacific markets as crucial for growth, particularly in the MMORPG space where games like RuneScape have substantial potential appeal. China, Japan, and South Korea represent some of the world’s largest gaming markets with strong engagement metrics and revenue potential. Jagex’s multi-language approach suggests the company is treating these regions as core markets rather than secondary territories, positioning RuneScape for deeper penetration in some of gaming’s most competitive and lucrative regions.
