With Stupid Never Dies, Capcom veteran Kobayashi is relishing the chance to build his bonkers zombie action game
Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi is developing an original zombie action game titled “Stupid Never Dies,” marking a return to creating new intellectual property after decades working on established franchises. With over 25 years in the industry, Kobayashi has been instrumental in shaping some of gaming’s most iconic titles and franchises, including Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, P.N.03, and Killer7.
The game is described as “Funky Zombie Action” and represents Kobayashi’s most ambitious project in terms of scope and foundation-building. Unlike typical AAA development cycles that leverage existing studio infrastructure and frameworks, this project began entirely from scratch. Kobayashi explained to VGC that since “Stupid Never Dies” is not based on an existing franchise, the entire development operation was constructed from the ground up—including the studio itself, the development environment, and the team assembly.
While acknowledging the significant challenges that come with establishing everything from zero, Kobayashi expressed enthusiasm about this opportunity to create original gaming experiences. The producer’s proven track record of innovation across multiple genres and gameplay styles suggests the project has considerable potential to deliver a fresh, distinctive contribution to the action-adventure genre.
