Breaking Bad beat out Hulu to a better Malcolm in the Middle reunion more than 12 years ago
Hulu launched a new four-episode Malcolm in the Middle revival this week that reunited much of the original cast. However, some fans argue it doesn’t compare to an earlier, unofficial reunion from over a decade ago. Six weeks after Breaking Bad concluded on September 29, 2013, a mysterious YouTube video appeared under an account named “Walter White” (the protagonist played by Bryan Cranston). The clip opened with an iconic Breaking Bad moment before cutting to Cranston waking in a dark bedroom with a full head of hair, apparently in a panic. Though details are incomplete from the excerpt provided, this spontaneous, cryptic reunion resonated differently with audiences than the official Hulu revival, which marks a more traditional attempt to bring the cast back together for new content.
