Meta Quest 3 VR Headset Prices Are Increasing, Making Reality More Expensive To Escape

Meta has announced price increases for its Quest 3 mixed reality headsets, effective April 19, 2026. The Quest 3 512GB model will rise from $500 to $600, while the entry-level Quest 3S will see a $50 price hike across its 128GB and 256GB variants.

The company attributes the increases to a global memory shortage and rising production costs for high-performance VR hardware. Meta stated that “the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly,” necessitating the adjustment to maintain product quality and ongoing innovation. Accessory prices will remain unchanged despite the broader pricing pressure.

This adjustment reflects wider inflationary trends across the premium hardware sector. Other major tech companies, including Sony with its PlayStation 5 pricing adjustments, have implemented similar increases in recent months. The price hikes may impact consumer adoption of VR technology as Meta Quest faces competition from other mixed reality platforms.

For consumers, the increases represent a notable barrier to entry in the VR market, particularly as the Quest 3S—positioned as Meta’s budget-friendly option—now commands higher prices. The timing comes as Meta continues substantial investments in its metaverse initiatives and broader VR ecosystem development.
