Overwatch season 2’s Mercy rework nerfs her healing, but makes her more fun to play
Blizzard released a significant rework for Mercy in Overwatch 2 season 2, introducing the Flash Heal ability and adjusting her overall healing output. Flash Heal, which was previously a limited perk, now allows Mercy to trigger a burst of healing while her staff is attached to an ally, whether she’s using the staff’s damage boost or healing function.
The rework also reduced Mercy’s overall healing output, making the changes appear as a small net nerf on paper. Players who analyzed the patch notes found that even with the new Flash Heal ability included, Mercy heals 5HP less per second than before. This counterintuitive approach—reducing healing while supposedly improving the character—confused some in the community, as Blizzard didn’t initially communicate the reasoning clearly.
However, after extensive testing and evaluation, the changes appear to represent a net positive for Mercy’s overall utility and playstyle. Despite the lower raw healing numbers, the flexibility and burst potential of Flash Heal seem to make her more useful in practice and more engaging to play. The rework suggests Blizzard’s focus was on improving Mercy’s gameplay experience and effectiveness rather than simply increasing her damage mitigation stats.
