Review: Pragmata On Switch 2: An Ambitious Port Held Back By Variable Performance

Capcom’s sci-fi shooter Pragmata has launched simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2, with Digital Foundry offering a technical deep dive into how the game performs on Nintendo’s hybrid hardware. While Nintendo Life praised the port with a 9/10 score, calling it “another excellent Switch 2 port from Capcom,” the technical review reveals mixed results.

The Switch 2 version uses DLSS technology to scale an internal 540p resolution up to 1080p in docked mode, which Digital Foundry considers “arguably a competitive picture” when compared directly to PS5. However, the handheld mode represents a further downgrade. More notably, the port requires significant visual compromises compared to the PS5’s 60fps performance mode. Ambient occlusion is almost entirely absent on Switch 2, and lighting effects have been substantially reduced.

Despite these technical cutbacks necessitated by Nintendo’s mobile-based silicon, Pragmata manages to preserve the essential visual identity of the game. The ambitious port demonstrates Capcom’s ability to scale their in-house RE Engine across vastly different hardware capabilities, though the compromises are immediately apparent when comparing the two versions side-by-side.

The simultaneous release across all platforms represents an increasingly rare occurrence in the current generation, making this a notable moment for cross-platform parity. While the Switch 2 version stands as a remarkable technical achievement for portable hardware, the technical review suggests that players prioritizing visual fidelity will find a noticeably different experience compared to stationary console versions.
