Rumour: Red Dead Redemption May Be Getting A Rubbish ‘Code-In-A-Box’ Release

According to reports from gaming news sites citing retail listings and industry leakers, Red Dead Redemption is set to receive physical retail editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on May 7th, 2026.

The PS5 version will be released as a traditional physical disc release, with pricing around €32.90 to €34.99. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition, meanwhile, will come as a “code-in-a-box” release—essentially a physical case containing only a download code rather than an actual game cartridge.

The information comes from Spanish retailer Wakkap’s listing, which was picked up by gaming outlets, and has been corroborated by Dealabs leaker BillBil-Kun, who conducted independent investigation into the claims. Both versions will include the main game bundled with the Undead Nightmare DLC, which originally released as downloadable content for the original game.

Red Dead Redemption previously received a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in December 2025. Publisher Rockstar Games has not yet officially confirmed these physical releases, making the information still technically unconfirmed despite multiple retailer listings and leaker corroboration.

The move marks an effort to bring the western action-adventure title to a wider audience through physical retail distribution on contemporary gaming platforms, though the “code-in-a-box” approach for Switch 2 has drawn criticism from consumers who prefer traditional cartridge releases.
