Feature: “A Huge Balancing Act” - Playtonic Spills The Beans On Yooka-Replaylee’s Massive Switch 2 Update

Playtonic Games has released a major update for Yooka-Replaylee, bringing 60fps performance mode support to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the 3D platformer. The game launched in October 2025 capped at 30fps, a limitation noted by reviewers. The new update directly addresses this constraint, delivering the performance improvement players have anticipated.

To achieve the 60fps target, Playtonic made subtle visual adjustments while preserving overall presentation quality. Shadow clarity is slightly reduced and distant assets appear softer in focus, but the differences are minimal enough that players must actively compare modes in the pause menu to detect them. The developer has retained the original fidelity mode, allowing players to toggle between performance and visual quality options directly from the pause menu.

The update is substantial, weighing nearly 5GB—a significant consideration for physical edition owners managing storage constraints. The release represents Playtonic’s commitment to improving the Switch 2 experience for Yooka-Replaylee players and resolving one of the primary criticisms of the port since launch.
