“It’s been an interesting year”: the jailed creator of Fortune’s Run has passed parole and is back working on her Deus Ex-style FPS

Dizzie, the lead developer of Fortune’s Run, an immersive simulation shooter in the Deus Ex style, has been released on parole after serving approximately one year of a three-year sentence for a previously convicted violent crime. She had announced her incarceration in January of the previous year, which suspended the game’s early access development on Steam.

Following a parole board review, Dizzie was granted early release and is currently working from a halfway house. In a recent Steam post, she announced her intention to resume active development on Fortune’s Run, describing the experience as “an interesting year.”

During her imprisonment, Dizzie remained creatively engaged despite limited resources, writing “a roguelike in C++ on paper,” demonstrating her continued commitment to game development even under constrained circumstances. Fortune’s Run had been in early access before development was paused due to her incarceration.

The announcement represents a significant moment both for Dizzie personally and for the game’s community of early access players awaiting continued development updates. The case highlights how creative professionals navigate major life disruptions and maintain their engagement with their craft through challenging circumstances.
