Gears Of War Movie: Netflix Is “100% Behind It,” Director Says
Netflix’s Gears of War movie is progressing well, according to director David Leitch, who shared an optimistic update during an interview at CinemaCon with Collider. Leitch, known for his work on the John Wick series, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, stated that he believes the film “is going to happen” after months without public updates on the long-in-development adaptation.
According to Leitch, the screenplay is currently in excellent condition, with a draft that is “in really great shape” already underway. The director emphasized that Netflix is “100% behind it,” signaling strong support from the streaming platform for the video game adaptation. Additionally, The Coalition, the developer behind the Gears of War franchise, is “fired up” about the project and actively engaged in its development.
The timing appears favorable for the movie’s progression. Leitch noted that The Coalition is releasing its new game, E-Day, this year, which he suggested could help momentum for the film. “So it’s all lining up that the movie will happen,” the director stated, expressing confidence that fans can anticipate the adaptation eventually reaching audiences.
The Gears of War movie will feature iconic characters from the franchise, including Marcus Phoenix and Dom Santiago. While the project has been in development for an extended period, Leitch’s comments represent the most recent reassurance to fans that the Netflix adaptation remains a priority for both the streaming service and the game’s developer.
