Despite a few “rough edges”, Replaced developer Sad Cat Studios is celebrating the sci-fi platformer’s “strong debut success”

Sad Cat Studios has announced a strong debut for its cyberpunk platformer Replaced, marking a successful launch for the independent developer despite acknowledging some “rough edges” in the release.

The 2.5D sci-fi platformer is set in an alternate 1980s America devastated by nuclear catastrophe. Players assume the role of Reach, an artificial intelligence unexpectedly consciousness-transferred into a human body, navigating this retro-futuristic world.

Replaced had generated significant anticipation on Steam prior to launch, establishing itself as one of the platform’s most eagerly awaited indie titles. The project faced a notable setback in 2022 when Sad Cat Studios postponed the release in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to addressing global humanitarian concerns.

The developer’s characterization of the launch as a “strong debut success” suggests the game has resonated with players and critics despite its imperfections. This celebration marks an important milestone for Sad Cat Studios as a development team, though the acknowledgment of rough edges indicates the studio recognizes areas for potential refinement through future updates or patches.
