Slay the Spire 2 dev rejects the concept of deadlines: ‘I don’t want Sloppy Spire 2’

Slay the Spire 2, the acclaimed deckbuilding roguelike sequel, has become one of Steam’s most-played games since launching in early access in March. Despite this early success, developer Mega Crit has signaled that the game remains far from completion and is intentionally prioritizing quality over speed.

The studio is deliberately rejecting firm deadlines, with the developer stating that “exacting deadlines produce sloppy uninspired work.” This philosophy is encapsulated in their refusal to make a “Sloppy Spire 2,” emphasizing their commitment to avoiding rushed or unpolished releases.

Slay the Spire 2 already exceeds its predecessor in both scope and player engagement, featuring significantly more content than the original game. However, substantial additions are still planned during the early access period, with the team teasing upcoming features that will further expand the game’s depth and replayability.
