Bryan Fuller’s surreal hitman fairy tale Dust Bunny debuts on HBO Max
Bryan Fuller, creator of acclaimed television series Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, has made his feature film directorial debut with Dust Bunny, now streaming on HBO Max. The film shares a plot concept with Luc Besson’s 1994 thriller Léon: The Professional—both feature a young girl living next to a hitman, asking him to kill the person responsible for orphaning her.
However, Dust Bunny diverges sharply from Besson’s moody crime drama. Fuller has instead crafted a surreal, ultra-stylish fairy tale that mirrors what John Wick might resemble if created as a collaboration between Tim Burton and Wes Anderson. The film exemplifies Fuller’s well-established visual sensibility, evident in his previous work including the whimsical aesthetics of Pushing Daisies, the mythic scope of American Gods, and other visually distinctive projects.
The film transforms its dark premise into a fantastical, visually daring narrative that sets it apart from traditional crime thrillers. Now available to stream, Dust Bunny offers viewers Fuller’s distinctive creative vision in feature film form for the first time.
