Slay the Spire 2 roadmap suggests we won’t get matchmaking but does promise “whimsy” – here’s what’s new
Mega Crit has published the first roadmap for Slay the Spire 2 following its early access launch over a month ago. Notably, the developer deliberately avoids committing to specific release dates or windows for upcoming content, explicitly stating it doesn’t want to create “Sloppy Spire 2.” This candid approach prioritizes quality over rushed timelines.
The roadmap, shared via Mega Crit’s April 2026 “Neowsletter,” outlines 17 planned additions and improvements for the popular deckbuilding roguelike. Major features include a new playable character, alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3, Steam Workshop support, a new Bestiary system, expanded language support, and a True Victory ending. The team also plans to implement Steam achievements and trading cards.
While some updates like console ports are marked as “further off in the future,” the roadmap demonstrates Mega Crit’s commitment to significant post-launch development. The focus during early access remains on fixing major issues, improving feedback systems, polishing visuals, and rebalancing cards and items to ensure everything feels interesting and viable. The studio’s transparent approach reflects its philosophy of avoiding rushed releases that could compromise the game’s long-term success.
