Elden Ring movie cast announced, with Alien: Romulus, The Last of Us and Ex Machina actors all on board

The cast for the live-action Elden Ring movie adaptation has been officially announced, with production set to begin in spring 2026. The film will be written and directed by Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina and Annihilation, and released through A24 on March 3, 2028.

The cast features Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Warfare), Ben Whishaw (recent James Bond films, Paddington voice actor), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Ruby Cruz (Willow), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), and Peter Serafinowicz.

The film is based on FromSoftware’s 2022 dark fantasy open-world RPG, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. It will be filmed for IMAX theatrical release, with reports suggesting the budget exceeds $100 million, making it reportedly one of A24’s most ambitious and expensive projects to date.

While production is underway with sets already spotted in UK parks showing recreations of in-game locations like Limgrave and the Church of Marika, specific character roles for the announced cast have not yet been disclosed. Director Garland has not revealed whether the film will be a direct adaptation of the game’s story or an original narrative set within the Lands Between, leaving many questions about how he will translate FromSoftware’s intricate worldbuilding to the screen.
