You Can Now Play League of Legends With a Controller

League of Legends has introduced controller support for the first time in its 17-year history. Riot Games added WASD controls to the MOBA to make the game more accessible to new players. Players can now use Xbox or PlayStation controllers on live servers without additional configuration beyond enabling WASD controls.

The update includes various accessibility improvements, including the ability to remap the mouse cursor to custom inputs. Xbox controllers feature a built-in control scheme with specific button mappings: LT triggers Q ability, LB triggers W ability, RB triggers E ability, RT triggers R ultimate, X activates D (move), Y activates F (emote), A triggers Auto Attack, and D-Pad Down uses the trinket item. This standardized mapping allows players to immediately begin playing with a controller once WASD is enabled.

This quality-of-life update opens League of Legends to players who prefer controller input or benefit from alternative control schemes for accessibility reasons. The addition of native controller support represents a significant shift for the long-running MOBA, which has traditionally relied exclusively on keyboard and mouse gameplay. The feature is now available to all players on the game’s live servers.
