Mass Effect TV Show Writer Responds To Claim That The Show Is Being Rewritten For “Non-Gamers”
A recent report claiming that the Amazon Prime Video Mass Effect television series underwent script rewrites to appeal to “non-gamers” has been disputed by the show’s writer and executive producer, Daniel Casey.
Earlier this month, The Ankler reported that Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, had requested the scripts be modified to attract audiences unfamiliar with the BioWare video game franchise. The report also noted that the series was “on the verge of a series order,” a development that generated concern among fans of the original games.
However, Casey, who also worked on Fast & Furious 9, took to social media to refute the claim. He stated that he had never received any directive to rewrite the show for non-gaming audiences and was unaware of the source of the quoted statement.
“I don’t know where that ’non-gaming audiences’ quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me,” Casey posted online, expressing that the report had caught him “off guard” much like it had surprised fans.
Due to non-disclosure agreements, Casey was unable to provide additional details about the Mass Effect script or the development process. Despite the limitations on what he could disclose, his public statement directly contradicted the earlier reporting about requested rewrites for broader appeal.
