Nioh 3 to get free update with high-difficulty side missions, rarer accessories, and new skills

Nioh 3, Team Ninja’s successful action RPG, will receive a significant free content update on April 27, 2026, continuing the developer’s post-launch support strategy. Producer Kohei Shibata announced the update on Team Ninja’s official website, expressing gratitude to players worldwide since the game’s release.

The free update introduces several new features designed to expand gameplay depth and difficulty options. Most notably, the patch adds new high-difficulty Battle Scrolls that provide fresh challenges for experienced players. A new currency system called the Stone of Penance will be implemented, allowing players to trade this currency to increase the value of their accessories—effectively deepening the loot and progression systems.

Completing the challenging new Battle Scrolls will unlock new skills and abilities, providing meaningful progression incentives beyond the combat rewards. Additionally, the update includes balance adjustments targeting select Graces, suggesting Team Ninja is fine-tuning the game’s existing systems based on player feedback.

The update reflects Nioh 3’s strong commercial performance for Koei Tecmo, justifying the developer’s continued investment in post-launch content. Team Ninja has also confirmed that paid season pass DLCs are in development, establishing a combined strategy of free updates and premium expansions—an approach consistent with the franchise’s tradition.
