For the second month, Square Enix has shut down a Japanese content creator for ‘harassing’ Final Fantasy 14 staff

Square Enix has initiated enforcement actions against Japanese content creators for allegedly harassing Final Fantasy 14 staff, marking the second such incident within consecutive months.

The first action targeted Netoge Sokuho, an anonymous-run Japanese news blog that published articles Square Enix claimed damaged the reputations of development staff and executives. Through its hosting provider, Square Enix obtained the administrator’s identity and negotiated a settlement. The blogger agreed to pay undisclosed compensation, publish a public apology, and shut down the site entirely.

This month, Square Enix has taken similar action against another Japanese content creator, following the same enforcement pattern.

These back-to-back interventions represent Square Enix’s continued efforts to address what it considers harassment of its Final Fantasy 14 development team. The publisher’s approach involves working with hosting providers to identify anonymous creators and negotiating settlements that include financial compensation, public apologies, and complete site closures. The actions demonstrate the publisher’s resolve in protecting its staff from online criticism it views as inappropriate.
