Starfield Tops Weekly US Sales Charts Despite ‘Disappointing’ Early Estimates

Starfield achieved a significant milestone in its sales trajectory with its PlayStation 5 launch on April 7, topping the US sales charts for the week ending April 11. According to Circana—the more reliable metrics provider—95% of the game’s full-price sales during this period came from the PS5 version, demonstrating strong initial adoption on Sony’s platform.

Prior estimates from Alinea Analytics had suggested more modest worldwide sales of approximately 140,000 units for the full week following the PS5 release, a figure characterized by some as disappointing. However, these estimates do not necessarily contradict the Circana data showing the game’s chart dominance.

The PS5 port’s success came during a relatively weak sales environment for competition. The free-to-play title Pokémon Champions represented the only significant rival, and Nintendo’s digital sales data is not reported to Circana, potentially understating actual competitive pressure.

This marks the first time since Starfield’s original 2023 launch on Xbox and PC that the acclaimed Bethesda RPG has topped the US sales charts. The PS5 launch coincided with the release of the Terran Armada DLC, which may have contributed to renewed interest in the title across platforms.
