Another World Of Warcraft Private Server Is Going Dark
World of Warcraft private server Stormforge will cease operations following a cease and desist order from Blizzard Entertainment. The development team announced that all operations, development, and distribution will end by May 14, 2026, following legal discussions with Blizzard representatives.
Stormforge provided players free access to modified versions of various older World of Warcraft expansions without a subscription requirement. The private server had built a community of players interested in experiencing earlier expansions no longer available in the current live game.
The shutdown reflects Blizzard’s ongoing enforcement of its intellectual property rights against unauthorized servers. The company has consistently pursued legal action against private servers it views as unauthorized distribution of proprietary game content.
While the Stormforge team described their discussions with Blizzard as “positive,” the legal outcome resulted in the server’s closure. The May 14 deadline provides the development team and community approximately three weeks to prepare for the service’s cessation.
