Escape From Tarkov Update

Battlestate Games has released update 1.0.4.5 for Escape from Tarkov, bringing significant technical improvements and balance changes to the extraction shooter. The update focuses on both performance optimization and gameplay mechanics, with notable changes to the K/D tracking system that have caught many players off guard.

Performance and technical improvements include increased FPS limits in menus and optimizations to the animation system and audio engine designed to reduce PC resource consumption. The post-raid system architecture has also been reworked to decrease the time required to exit raids and return to the main menu. Additionally, the left-shoulder firing stance logic has been adjusted so that switching to the right shoulder no longer occurs instantly upon collision with obstacles, instead allowing the weapon to continue moving for a short period without changing stance.

The most impactful change for players is the reworked K/D ratio display system. Previously, the ratio accumulated all kills including AI-controlled enemies, but now it exclusively counts player-character kills. For PvE-focused players, only kills against AI PMCs contribute to their K/D ratio. This significant change has resulted in many players logging in to find their K/D ratios substantially lower than before.

Battlestate Games has also implemented balance changes targeting the meta, specifically challenging the dominance of suppressed weapons by adjusting how weapon attachments impact overall gun builds. The update includes broader weapon balance adjustments across stacks.

Looking ahead, the next major patch, 1.0.5, will introduce the Icebreaker map.
