20-Year-Old Sony JRPG Makes Surprise Return to PS5, PS4 This Week, Free on PS Plus Premium

Sony is adding Wild Arms 4, a 2005 PS2 JRPG developed by Media.Vision, to its PS Plus Premium service. The game will be available via PS2 emulation on both PS5 and PS4 starting April 21st, 2026.

Wild Arms 4’s arrival marks a notable expansion of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalogue, which has historically received infrequent updates. The previous three entries in the Wild Arms series are already available in some form on the PlayStation Store, and this new addition potentially paves the way for bringing Wild Arms 5, a fan-favorite entry, to the service.

The game is recognized for its distinctive hexagonal grid-based battle system, which has been generally well-liked by players. However, the title’s narrative has attracted criticism throughout its lifespan. The North American release notably shipped with two monsters removed compared to other versions, yet the game failed to acknowledge this difference, creating an inconsistency that has remained a point of contention among players.

While Wild Arms 4 may not have maintained the strongest reputation among some circles, its inclusion in PS Plus Premium demonstrates Sony’s continued effort to preserve and provide access to classic PlayStation 2 titles for modern hardware owners. Through emulation, these older games can be experienced on current-generation consoles without requiring original hardware or physical copies, making preservation of gaming history more accessible to players.
