Xbox Rewards Points Are Being Turned Into An Actual Currency For Buying Games On Console

Xbox is streamlining its rewards redemption process by converting Xbox Rewards points into a direct currency for purchasing games on console. Previously, users had to navigate to the Rewards dashboard, redeem their points for an Xbox or Microsoft Gift Card, and then add those funds to their account before making a purchase. This two-step process will soon be eliminated.

Moving forward, players will be able to purchase games directly using their accumulated Rewards points without the intermediate gift card redemption step. The option to redeem for gift cards will remain available for users who prefer it, but the new direct-purchase method provides a more streamlined user experience.

The feature is currently being rolled out in the United States, with Xbox advertising it as “coming soon” on the official Xbox website. Notably, some US-based Xbox players have already gained access to the feature, suggesting that Xbox is conducting a phased rollout or testing it with a subset of users before expanding availability to the broader user base.

This change represents a meaningful quality-of-life improvement for Xbox players who accumulate Rewards points through activities like Game Pass quests and achievements. By reducing friction in the redemption process, Xbox is making its rewards program more user-friendly and potentially encouraging greater engagement with the platform’s ecosystem.
