Ball x Pit’s massive Shadow Update adds two new characters and 11 time-warping balls
Ball x Pit, the roguelite sensation that launched in October 2025, is receiving its second major free update on April 27th, 2026. Called the Shadow Update, this substantial patch continues the momentum from the game’s successful debut and the earlier Regal Update that arrived in January.
The headline additions include two new playable characters with distinct mechanics. The Tunneler features screen-wrapping shots that exit one edge of the screen and reappear on the opposite side, opening new tactical possibilities. The Tiptoer offers a stealth approach, remaining invisible to close-range enemies and enabling different strategic approaches to combat.
Time manipulation forms the update’s thematic core. The Shadow Update introduces 11 new time-warping balls that can freeze and warp time, significantly expanding the roguelite’s gameplay systems. Beyond character additions, the patch includes new passive abilities, a new building (the Guild Hall), and additional content to unlock and explore.
The update represents part of developer Kenny Sun’s broader three-update roadmap for the game, demonstrating Devolver Digital’s commitment to supporting the title with substantial free content. The continued investment in Ball x Pit highlights the game’s strong player reception and successful 2025 launch.
