Elden Ring film budget reportedly “well over” $100m, and A24’s “largest and most ambitious project” yet
The upcoming live-action Elden Ring film adaptation from production company A24 and director Alex Garland will have a budget exceeding $100 million, marking the company’s most expensive and ambitious project to date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production will involve approximately 100 days of principal photography and has surpassed previous A24 blockbusters in terms of budget allocation.
The Elden Ring film is more costly than A24’s Civil War (also directed by Garland) and Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, which previously held the company’s budget records. This significant investment reflects A24’s commitment to bringing the popular FromSoftware video game to the screen with a major cinematic production.
The cast announcement has begun, with actress Cailee Spaeny (known for Alien: Romulus and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) taking a lead role in the adaptation. Filming is set to commence in the United Kingdom, with production crews already establishing sets depicting iconic locations from the game, including Limgrave and the Church of Marika.
The substantial budget signals A24’s confidence in the project’s potential as a major motion picture, positioning it as one of the most ambitious video game adaptations in development. With director Garland’s proven track record in delivering critically acclaimed science fiction and action films, the studio appears committed to creating a high-quality adaptation that does justice to the game’s expansive world.
