Dragon Ball and Digimon producer Toei announces Toei Games, focusing on new IPs first
Toei Company, the Japanese entertainment giant behind franchises like One Piece, Dragon Ball, Digimon, and Kamen Rider, has announced the establishment of Toei Games, a new in-house video game publishing division. The company plans to position gaming as a new pillar alongside its traditional businesses in film, television, and events.
Toei Games will initially launch titles on PC via Steam, with plans to expand to home consoles including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The first game from the division will be announced on April 24th, 2026.
A notable strategic decision is that Toei Games’ initial lineup will focus entirely on original intellectual property rather than leveraging Toei’s extensive existing catalog. The company plans to work with creators from both Japan and internationally to develop these new franchises. According to Toei president and CEO Fumio Yoshimura, the company will leverage its expertise and technology cultivated through decades of video production to enhance its new gaming ventures.
This marks a significant expansion for Toei Company, which has dominated anime production and live-action tokusatsu entertainment for over 70 years. By establishing Toei Games as a dedicated publishing arm, the company is positioning itself to capture the growing video game market while maintaining its focus on content creation and original IP development rather than relying on existing franchise adaptations to drive its gaming business initially.
