Dead by Daylight Behavior Interactive appears to have suffered fresh layoffs, as senior animator announces sudden departure
Behaviour Interactive has confirmed a fresh round of layoffs affecting an undisclosed number of employees. News of the cuts first emerged through social media posts from affected staff, including Jonathan Veiga, a senior animator on the studio’s flagship title Dead by Daylight.
According to a statement from Behaviour Interactive, the layoffs result from significantly reduced demand for mobile and casual external development projects. The Canadian studio has traditionally derived a substantial portion of its business from external development partnerships with major companies including NetEase Games, Disney, Nintendo, EA, and Tencent. As this market segment contracts, the company has decided to part ways with some colleagues as it concludes its remaining engagements and does not foresee comparable opportunities in the near term.
While Behaviour Interactive is best known for Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that has become one of the studio’s primary revenue drivers, the company has long worked on diverse external projects beyond its own IP. The decline in demand for such partnership work appears to be a broader industry trend as companies reassess their external development spending and portfolio strategies.
