D&D’s new actual play show borrows a clever horror mechanic from Dark Dice
Dungeons & Dragons has launched a new official actual play show called Dungeon Masters, premiering on April 22 with its first two episodes. The star-studded cast features celebrities Neil Newbon, Devora Wilde, Christian Navarro, and Mayanna Berrin under the guidance of Dungeon Master Jasmine Bhullar.
The inaugural campaign transports the party to Sithicus, a perilous Domain of Dread from the Ravenloft setting, designed to showcase the dark, oppressive atmosphere these supernatural realms are known for. To effectively convey the nerve-wracking tension that characterizes these domains, Bhullar employs a house rule mechanic borrowed from the podcast Dark Dice, which amplifies the horror elements and maintains the show’s sinister tone throughout the campaign.
This launch serves as a promotional vehicle for the upcoming Ravenloft: The Horrors Within book, using the actual play format to demonstrate the setting’s content and gameplay possibilities to viewers. The combination of celebrity talent, established D&D intellectual property, and proven horror mechanics positions Dungeon Masters as a significant addition to the growing landscape of official D&D entertainment properties.
