Ecco the Dolphin: Complete announced, includes remasters of the first two entries and brand-new game

Ecco the Dolphin is making a comeback. Developer A&R Atelier, led by original series creator Ed Annunziata, has officially announced Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, a comprehensive collection that will remaster the beloved classic games while introducing a brand-new entry to the franchise.

The collection includes fully remastered versions of the first two Ecco games — Ecco the Dolphin (1992) and Ecco: The Tides of Time (1994) — across all their original platform variants from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. This encompasses versions released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, and Mega CD. Additionally, Complete will feature a brand-new contemporary game designed for modern gaming standards.

What sets this project apart is the involvement of the original creative team. A&R Atelier emphasized that the original composers, artists, and programmers who built Ecco’s world are returning to bring the franchise forward. “No one else can make this game,” the studio stated in its announcement, positioning this as an authentic continuation by the minds that originally created the series rather than an outside studio’s interpretation.

According to reports, the collection will also feature “meta quests” that enable players to construct custom courses by combining levels from any game in the franchise and sharing them with the community. While details about platforms and release dates remain unannounced, the project has been in development for some time, with series creator Ed Annunziata teasing the project about a year ago and further confirmation emerging earlier this year.
