Viral horror short Mora receives the feature-length treatment
The viral horror short film “Mora” is being adapted into a feature-length film by indie production and distribution company Neon. Created by filmmaker Sam Evenson through his Grimoire Horror YouTube channel, which has nearly 200,000 subscribers, the short has accumulated over 4 million views.
The film explores themes of artistic struggle and obsession through a disturbing premise centered on AI image generation. The narrative follows Cody (Tim Torre), a young artist who has lost confidence in his own creative abilities. Claiming to create work for himself and his partner Hanna (Jamie Taylor Ballesta), Cody becomes increasingly obsessed with using an AI generator, starting with the prompt “women made of rotten meat” and progressively seeking more horrific depictions.
The story examines the intersection of human creativity with artificial intelligence, tapping into contemporary anxieties about AI art generation and its potential to both augment and corrupt creative expression. Evenson’s original short resonated widely on YouTube, suggesting broad audience interest in speculative narratives exploring technology’s implications for artistic agency.
The feature adaptation represents a significant milestone for the independent horror community, with Neon’s involvement signaling mainstream recognition of the short’s cultural impact. Neon’s established track record in distributing distinctive horror films positions it well to translate the short’s appeal to a broader theatrical audience.
