Mar 2026 USA Sales: Pokémon-Powered Switch 2 Finally Beats 5-Year-Old PS5

New US sales data from Circana shows that Nintendo’s Switch 2 surpassed Sony’s PS5 in both units and dollar sales during March 2026 (1st March through 4th April). This marks a shift after the PS5 maintained the lead in January and February, despite achieving a 3% year-over-year sales increase.

The change in momentum appears linked to a significant price increase announced for all PS5 models on 2nd April. Ahead of this increase, consumers rushed to retailers to purchase consoles at the previous lower price point, with sales peaking just before the price hike took effect.

Contributing to the Switch 2’s strong performance was Pokémon Pokopia, which boosted the system’s appeal even though it charted in fifth position overall. Industry analysts expect the remainder of 2026 to present sales challenges for PS5 outside of special promotions and major releases, as the higher price point may dampen consumer interest.
