According to Circana’s latest monthly sales report, Resident Evil Requiem remains 2026’s best-selling game overall through the first quarter of the year. However, March 2026 specifically was dominated by new releases, with MLB The Show 26 claiming the top spot for the month.
March 2026 proved to be a strong sales month driven by multiple new releases. Four of the top five best-selling games in March were newly launched titles, including MLB The Show 26 in first place, WWE 2K26 in third, Marathon in fourth, and Pokemon Pokopia in fifth. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection also performed well, ranking seventh for the month. Other notable releases like Crimson Desert contributed to the sales boost.
The new releases translated into significant spending across the industry. US video game software spending reached $5.3 billion in March 2026, representing a 12% increase compared to March 2025. Hardware sales were particularly strong, with spending growing 69% year-over-year to $500 million in March. Nintendo Switch 2 was the primary driver of hardware sales growth, becoming the second fastest-selling hardware platform since Circana began tracking in 1995. PlayStation 5 also saw modest growth, with spending increasing 3% compared to March 2025.
