The Dev Behind Many Classic Games on PS5 and PS Plus Just Got Bought By Atari
Atari has acquired Implicit Conversions, a development studio specializing in bringing classic games to modern gaming platforms. The studio has been instrumental in delivering many retro titles to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 through PlayStation Plus Premium’s collection of legacy games.
Implicit Conversions has an extensive portfolio of over one hundred classic titles brought to modern consoles, including franchises such as Fear Effect, Fighting Force, and Mortal Kombat. The acquisition strengthens Atari’s growing position in the retro gaming and emulation space.
This move adds Implicit Conversions to Atari’s existing roster of studios focused on classic game preservation and modernization. The publisher already owns Digital Eclipse and Nightdive, both renowned for their work reviving and remastering classic games for contemporary audiences. The consolidation of these specialized teams signals Atari’s strategic focus on becoming a major player in the retro gaming market, leveraging expertise in porting and emulating classic titles for current-generation hardware and services.
