Another big Crimson Desert update brings boss changes, difficulty options, more storage, control tweaks and cats for good measure

Pearl Abyss has released patch 1.04.00 for Crimson Desert, marking the game’s largest update since its mid-March launch. The patch introduces three difficulty modes—Easy, Normal, and Hard—addressing a major community request. Easy mode reduces player damage taken, enemy health, speed, and aggression while providing extended timing windows for parrying and dodging. Hard mode makes enemies more challenging, increases player damage taken, reduces invincibility frames during rolls, and adds new combat patterns to bosses. Food items on hard difficulty now require proper timing to consume rather than allowing spam-healing.

Beyond difficulty options, the patch adds significant quality-of-life improvements including expanded storage options for the camp house, new pets (including birds and cats), additional skills, and keyboard/mouse and controller preset options. Graphical enhancements improve distant scenery quality and draw distance. The update also includes camp customization features and numerous bug fixes.

The patch rolls out across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, with a Mac version coming later. File sizes vary by platform, ranging from 29GB on PS5 to over 37GB on PC. Since its March release, Crimson Desert has sold over 5 million copies, and Pearl Abyss has committed to regular post-launch support throughout 2026. The developer’s rapid update cadence has received both praise and mixed reactions from players adjusting to the frequent changes.
