This photorealistic Steam survival game could’ve killed its creator
Dogus Cagrici, developer and actor behind the upcoming Steam game Wordless Forest, spent weeks in the Turkish wilderness capturing authentic survival footage firsthand. Equipped only with a backpack and camera, he documented real encounters with bears, boars, and snakes while navigating genuine environmental dangers.
Rather than using traditional game development methods or post-production cinematography, Cagrici chose to prioritize authenticity by living through actual survival scenarios and filming them directly. This approach came with significant physical risks—he suffered multiple falls during filming and nearly broke his foot several times.
The game is a live-action, interactive fiction experience where players encounter events actually captured by the developer. This unconventional methodology reflects extreme dedication to immersion, blurring the line between documentary and interactive game design. Wordless Forest represents a distinctive indie approach to game creation that prioritizes real-world experience and danger over safer, conventional development practices.
