Avengers: Doomsday’s Doctor Doom feels like a classic manga villain

Doctor Doom’s portrayal in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday has drawn comparisons to Griffith, a central character from the long-running manga series Berserk. While Marvel has yet to officially release the latest CinemaCon trailer, leaked footage has sparked discussion about parallels between the MCU’s villain and Kentaro Miura’s iconic creation.

Berserk, which has been serialized since 1989, is regarded as one of manga’s most influential works. Though the narrative centers on protagonist Guts, the opening arc focuses on his membership in the Band of the Hawk, led by the silver-haired and charismatic Griffith. The character is notable for his complexity—a visionary leader whose ambitions gradually transform into something darker as the story progresses, particularly through the series’ acclaimed Golden Age arc.

The comparison suggests that Doctor Doom may share thematic elements with Griffith’s character arc, though details remain limited pending Marvel’s official promotional materials.
