Europa Universalis 5 is getting its first big DLC in May, a race to save the crumbling Byzantine Empire
Paradox Interactive announced that Europa Universalis 5 will receive its first major expansion, “Fate of the Phoenix,” launching on May 6th. The DLC focuses on the Byzantine Empire, providing players with an immersive experience centered around this historically significant civilization during its decline.
The expansion, branded as an “Immersion pack,” introduces substantial new mechanics and content related to Orthodoxy and Bureaucracy systems. Players will gain new tools to engage in a strategic race to save the crumbling Byzantine Empire, with features designed to enhance the Byzantine experience. Additional mechanics include Hellenism, adding another layer of historical authenticity and gameplay depth.
This marks the first major content addition to EU5 since its launch, building on the game’s foundation as a complex historical grand strategy simulation. The expansion aims to deepen engagement with one of history’s most influential civilizations during a pivotal period, offering players new ways to alter the historical timeline through improved empire management systems and Orthodox-focused gameplay mechanics.
