Event Horizon’s sequel comic just brought back a 232-year-old Lt. Starck
The Event Horizon franchise is expanding further into comics with a major sequel miniseries. Following the commercial success of the prequel comic Event Horizon: Dark Descent, IDW Publishing has officially launched Event Horizon: Inferno, set 200 years in the future within the saga’s timeline.
The first issue of Inferno introduces devil-worshiping billionaire Daniel Durante as its primary antagonist, who commands a crew of hired hands drawn from the impoverished and desperate. The series marks a significant continuity bridge by bringing back Dr. Billy Weir, the ship’s designer and the main antagonist from the original Event Horizon film, portrayed by Sam Neill.
The prequel miniseries Dark Descent had centered on a largely new cast but was anchored by Weir’s character arc. That story explored his psychological unraveling, tracing how personal tragedy—specifically the loss of his wife Claire—transformed him from a brilliant but misguided genius into something far darker and more sinister.
Inferno continues building the Event Horizon cinematic universe through sequential art, leveraging the momentum of Dark Descent’s success to expand the franchise’s narrative scope with fresh threats and legacy characters.
