‘Their favourite games were already built with AI’: Google exec says almost every big studio uses AI, but not all disclose it
According to Google Cloud’s global director for games Jack Buser, nearly every major game development studio currently uses AI tools in their development process. However, many studios are reluctant to publicly acknowledge their AI usage due to concerns about potential backlash from players and the gaming community.
Buser explained to Mobilegamer.biz that studios are primarily using AI to eliminate repetitive and low-value tasks in development. Google’s own AI offerings, including Gemini and Nano Banana Pro, are among the tools being utilized by developers to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
Capcom is specifically cited as a major studio that openly uses AI tools in its development pipeline. This disclosure reflects a significant but sensitive trend in modern game development, where AI integration has become standard practice even as the industry remains cautious about public acknowledgment.
The reluctance to disclose AI usage appears tied to ongoing debates about artificial intelligence in creative industries. Despite hesitation about announcements, Buser’s comments suggest AI has become foundational to contemporary game development, with studios leveraging technology to reduce manual labor on routine tasks rather than replacing core creative work.
