Mortal Kombat, Batman, And Harry Potter Games Are One Step Closer To Being Owned By Paramount

Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders have overwhelmingly approved Paramount’s $111 billion acquisition of the company, marking a major step forward in one of entertainment’s largest consolidation deals. Under the agreement, shareholders will receive $31 per share—a significant premium reflecting the stock’s appreciation from under $10 just a year ago.

Despite approving the mega-deal, shareholders rejected the proposed “golden parachute” severance packages for CEO David Zaslav and other top executives, signaling investor concern about hefty executive payouts despite supporting the transaction’s overall terms.

The acquisition carries substantial implications for gaming, as it consolidates ownership of major franchises including Mortal Kombat, Batman, and Harry Potter games under Paramount’s umbrella. The deal represents a continuation of major industry consolidation as entertainment and gaming companies seek greater scale and diversified content portfolios to compete in an increasingly competitive digital entertainment landscape.

The shareholder vote brings the acquisition closer to completion, though regulatory approvals and other closing conditions may still be required before the deal officially closes.
