Peacock Has Canceled the Clueless Sequel Series
Peacock has canceled its Clueless sequel television series, which was announced in April 2025 with original film star Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her iconic role as Cher. According to Variety, the project is no longer moving forward at the streaming platform, though industry observers suggest the strong interest in the property could lead to another network acquiring it for development.
Silverstone had expressed enthusiasm about the project despite initial hesitation about reviving the beloved 1995 film. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress explained her cautious approach: “I never thought that that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn’t want to mess up this thing that we all love so much.” She emphasized the project’s goal of honoring the original while introducing new elements, stating, “We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.”
The cancellation comes despite considerable enthusiasm around the revival, suggesting that the project maintains marketability in an era where nostalgia-driven content continues to attract significant attention from streaming platforms. The series was positioned to capitalize on renewed interest in 1990s cultural touchstones while leveraging Silverstone’s return as a major draw for audiences.
