New Xbox boss Asha Sharma teases a Discord partnership as part of a renewed Game Pass push, days after significant price cut announced
Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma announced a renewed collaboration between Xbox and Discord as part of a broader push to expand Game Pass offerings. The announcement comes days after Xbox implemented a significant price cut to its subscription service.
Sharma revealed that Xbox and Discord will deepen their existing partnership to make Game Pass “more flexible for our players.” The teams have historically worked together to help players connect, chat, and play across devices, and this new phase of collaboration will extend that integration further.
According to Sharma’s social media post, the partnership is already in development stages, with code being tested ahead of a formal announcement. “Some of you might start to see some code in the wild, and we will share more details with you all soon!” she wrote. Discord subsequently shared the announcement through its own channels, confirming the joint effort.
The timing of this announcement reflects Microsoft’s strategy to strengthen Game Pass competitiveness in the subscription gaming market, particularly following recent pricing adjustments. The Discord integration suggests Xbox is focusing on social and community features as differentiators for its subscription service, leveraging Discord’s dominant position in gaming communication and community building.
