This composer just remade the entire soundtrack of the first Elder Scrolls game: ‘It really gives you a sense of wonder and adventure’
A composer has completed a full remake of the original soundtrack for The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the 1994 MS-DOS title that launched the Elder Scrolls franchise. The game’s original orchestral-style music was composed by Eric Heberling, who also worked on The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Due to the technical limitations of early 1990s personal computers, Heberling’s compositions had to be compressed to fit within the platform’s audio constraints.
The remake project seeks to restore and enhance the musical experience of the classic RPG while preserving its artistic intent. According to the project, the reimagined soundtrack captures the sense of wonder and adventure that defined the original game. This effort reflects growing interest in game preservation and the recognition of classic video game music as culturally significant artistic work.
The project demonstrates how modern production capabilities enable creators to revisit and revitalize the audio from foundational gaming experiences, allowing both longtime fans and new players to experience the game’s world with enhanced sound design.
