Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 celebrates its one-year anniversary with… new haircuts?

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the award-winning turn-based RPG, has reached a major milestone on its first anniversary. Developer Sandfall Interactive announced the game has sold over 8 million copies worldwide since its April 2025 launch.

The success extends across distribution platforms, with Expedition 33 becoming the most downloaded new third-party release on Xbox Game Pass in 2025. The game has also achieved unprecedented critical acclaim, winning more Game of the Year awards than any other game in history, surpassing previous record-holder Elden Ring.

To celebrate the anniversary, Sandfall Interactive released a free content update across all platforms. The highlight is a new cosmetic feature adding “1st Anniversary haircuts” for all six playable characters—Gustave, Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco. Players can acquire Gustave’s new hairstyle from the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, while the other characters’ haircuts are available from the Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tête. The update also includes minor bug fixes.

The game’s first year has exceeded expectations, and the developer expressed gratitude to players, content creators, and supporters who contributed to its phenomenon status.
