Far Cry TV Series Won’t Adapt Any Of The Games, Showrunner Says
A live-action Far Cry television series is in development at Hulu as part of FX’s overall deal. Showrunner Noah Hawley, known for creating acclaimed series such as Fargo and Alien: Earth, will oversee the project, with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob Mac attached to the cast.
In a departure from some video game-to-screen adaptations, Hawley has clarified that the Far Cry series will not directly adapt any of the existing games from the first-person shooter franchise. Instead, he will be creating original stories inspired by the Far Cry brand. This approach aligns with what attracted Hawley to the property in the first place: the Far Cry games themselves operate as an anthology, with each new release telling a completely different story with unique settings and characters.
Hawley plans to apply the same anthology structure to the television adaptation, where each season would feature a different narrative while maintaining thematic consistency. He explained that the core appeal of Far Cry—and the concept he wants to explore—centers on “civilized people thrown into situations where they have to become increasingly uncivilized.” This approach mirrors the methodology Hawley employed with Fargo, which similarly tells different stories within a shared universe across its seasons.
By creating original stories rather than directly adapting game content, Hawley aims to ensure the television series remains focused on compelling narratives while leveraging the thematic and tonal elements that define the Far Cry franchise. The series was officially announced in November 2025 and is among numerous video game adaptations currently in development for television and film.
