Final Fantasy 14 Reveals Next Expansion, Evercold, And Title Of Next Saga

FFXIV’s next major expansion, titled Evercold, was officially announced during the FFXIV Fan Festival 2026 and is scheduled to launch in January 2027. Directed by Naoki Yoshida, the expansion continues the Godless Realms Saga, which began with the previous expansion Dawntrail.

The expansion will take players to the Fourth, a new reflection (world) on the brink of being consumed by an encroaching ice storm. The Warrior of Light will reunite with familiar allies, including the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, members like Estinien and Alphinaud, to prevent the realm from freezing over. The teaser trailer showcased the protagonist appearing from the sky alongside these companions as they work to save the frozen world.

Patch 7.5 will precede the expansion’s launch and set up the narrative events leading into Evercold. Beyond the main story, Square Enix announced several major features for version 8.0, including improvements to item progression systems, an expanded free trial, and new combat mechanics. The expansion will also feature an Alliance Raid (24-player content) that collaborates with the classic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Additionally, the company revealed plans to bring FFXIV to the Nintendo Switch 2, expanding the game’s platform availability.

This marks the continuation of FFXIV’s post-Hydaelyn and Zodiark narrative, which shifted the story’s focus to the New World of Tural with Dawntrail in 2024.
